I’ve been seeing many webs among the rhododendrons here at my friend’s place in Oregon, but not the makers responsible for them. I’ll have to take a more careful look around to see what I can find.
Yes, I don’t know how the ambulance and paramedic crews do it. I don’t really think I’d have the right mindset to do that kind of work day after day. Good thing there are people who can.

I saw a big mama spider in the garage a week or so ago. She had a tremendous load of babies on her back.

We found our first giant wolf spider in the garage last week. Big big big. Haven’t seen very many webs though. I’ll have to keep looking.
Three fatalities. What a terrible thing. I think being a paramedic must take some kind of constitutional calling. I know I couldn’t do it.

Bev - I wonder if the rhodie spiders are nocturnal? Or maybe very shy - our marbled orb weavers which we seldom see near the house, will zip up the web and hide as soon as they spot me.
It takes some special combination of endurance and caring to work with people in extremis. I know I don’t have it and I don’t know that I could develop it. I’m also glad that there are people who can.
Mark - a wolf spider, maybe. A lot of people get creeped out by the babies on the back thing. I think it’s neat.
Robin - hope you’ve weathered the Pacific storm!
We’ve been at a number of wrecks, but this was the first one like this. Our chief accompanied the forestry chief on the gator when the bodies were retrieved, and was pretty grim when he returned. No, not for me, either. I’m glad to have a specific job to do and to stick with that.

I think it was a wolf spider. They are common around the garage and in front of the garage, probably because we have some lights that burn there all night.

Mark - Wolf spider are cool. It’s not just the scenario of being able to see their eyes glowing back at you when you shine a flashlight into a field of them at night, although that is really cool. My impression of their coolness was elevated when one day I was weeding and accidently grabbed a large one. She had an egg sac, not yet hatched, and she actually nipped me. It was a dull pinch, but a very distinctive bite that couldn’t have penetrated the skin. I was impressed. I thoroughly deserved it.

I like that flag decal on the door. I have a similar one pasted inside my journal.

Pablo - very sharp eyes you have! We put that up years ago. We don’t have a lot of solicitation way down here at the bottom of the drive, and maybe that’s why!

I noticed the rainbow sticker too. Of course, I’m always on the lookout for rainbows and equality signs.
Did you know Bobby and I marched in DC? We had a great time.
