She was instrumental in waking me up about the environment back when I was high school ('67). I remember doing a book report on Silent Spring and having it poo pooed by the teacher as radical and somehow un-American.

In contrast my biology teacher at that little redneck school in Oakwood Georgia made us all read Silent Spring. Of course Jerry Lee Jackson was pretty much a subversive himself then, in 1970.
